Cindy Lin

Cindy Lin is a clarinettist who was born in Taiwan in 1981. She began her studies of piano and clarinet at the ages of 6 and 9, respectively, before moving to Australia where she continued her studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. In 2007, Cindy graduated with First Prize and highest honors from C.N.S.M de Paris, as well as a Soloist Diploma from l’HEMU de Lausanne, Switzerland in 2008. She also received L.MUS.A from the Australian Associated Music Examination Board for both Piano and Clarinet.

Cindy is known for her superb tone and musicianship. She has been praised for her performances as principal clarinettist of Orchestre de Chambre de Geneve since 2006. Cindy has also played as guest principal to the BBC Symphony Orchestra in London, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Verbier Chamber Orchestra, Verbier Festival Orchestra, Bern Symphonic Orchestra, Orchester Biel Solothurn, Sinfonietta de Lausanne, and many others. She has worked under the batons of such conductors as James Levine, Zubin Mehta, Christopher Hogwood, Paarvo Jaarvi, and Susanna Mälki.

As a soloist, Cindy has made appearances with numerous orchestras including the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Orchestre de Chambre de Geneve, Orchestra del Teatro Lirico di Spoleto, Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Torino, and Sinfonietta de Lausanne, among others. Her repertoire ranges from Mozart, Copland, and Hartmann concertos to the Artie Shaw Jazz Concerto. Her special performance of the Weber Clarinet Concerto No. 2 with the SBS Television and Radio Youth Orchestra in Beijing was made into a documentary and diffused by the SBS Channel in Australia. Cindy has also been a featured artist alongside Corrado Giuffredi at the Paleo Festival’s only classical concert in front of more than 10,000 audiences, as well as opening the very first concert at the Sunday Concert Series of the prestigious Rosey Concert Hall. Many of Cindy’s performances have also been recorded live or in studio by broadcasting companies such as ABC Australia, 2MBS-FM, Espace 2, RTS, and RSI. She has also given masterclasses in Europe, China, and Australia.

Cindy has received numerous scholarships and awards including the Leon Leblanc, Buffet Crampon, and Vandoren awards, the Fondation Juchum Achievement Grant in Switzerland, the Academy of Villecroze Music Scholarship in France, the Big Brother Scholarship for the Arts and the Governor’s Scholarship in Australia, and the 1st prize in the International Competition of Chieri (Italy), 3rd prize in the Migros Chamber Music Competition (Switzerland), and the 1st prize in the Marco Fiorindo International Chamber Music Competition (Italy).

Cindy is also the co-founder of the reed trio CLAB, which specializes in contemporary repertoire. The group has been managed by Pro Helvetia and toured in France, Italy, Tunisia, Poland, Italy, and Switzerland. The Swiss composer Michel Hostettler has even written a trio dedicated to the group, which was premiered in Rome at the Swiss Embassy.

Finally, Cindy is a Silverstein, Vandoren, and Uebel artist.
